[Montevideo, November 10, 2011] Letter to UN Women from women’s organizations in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

[Argentina, September 2011] On September 7th representatives came together to: a.) write to Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs requesting an increase in Argentina’s contribution to UN WOMEN; b.) develop a thematic proposal for UN WOMEN’s Executive branch in order to prioritize the following issues in 2012-13.

[Argentina, May 2, 2011] Between February 21 and March 17, 2011, these consultations were conducted in the countries in the region. The majority of them were done at country level, although a regional consultation was held in Panama in early March.

[New York, February 26, 2011] UN Women’s Executive Director met with women from civil society from Latin America and the Caribbean who are members of the GEAR Campaign. The group presented their regional priorities and asked that all women be taken into account in the consultations for the new United Nations Entity for Gender Equality’s Strategic Plan.

[New York, February, 25, 2011] FUNDACIÓN PARA ESTUDIO E INVESTIGACIÓN DE LA MUJER (FEIM), a regional focal point in the GEAR Campaign, shares excitement over the launch of UN Women.

[Brazil, 2010] At the 2010 Beijing+15 regional meeting in Latin America and the Caribbean, NGOs delivered the following recommendations to the UN about UN Women.

[Santiago, February 2010] FEIM, the GEAR Campaign regional focal point for Latin America, sent a letter to the governments of the region, providing an analysis of the UN Secretary-General’s proposal for the new UN gender equality entity.

[Santiago, 13 July 2009] A number of Chilean women’s rights organizatons have sent a letter to the Chilean gender equality minister Laura Albornoz to urge Chilean government to take action on the creation of the new UN women’s entity.
