GEAR Campaign in Latin America The Foundation for Studies and Research on Women / Fundación para Estudio e Investigación de la Mujer (FEIM) is the Focal Point for GEAR Campaign in Latin America. FEIM coordinates an extensive group of women’s organizations and networks in the region supporting GEAR Campaign to actively advocate governments and parliaments. Together women’s groups in Latin America have been advocating for more than five years for the creation of a powerful new women’s entity in the United Nations to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide.
FEIMThe Foundation for Studies and Research on Women (FEIM) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization created in 1989 by a group of professional women specializing in gender issues. FEIM develops research, training, projects, and advocacy to improve the social, labour, legal, political, economic, family, and health conditions for women in Argentina and in the region.
Since its creation, FEIM has developed programmes and social projects based on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, Women and the Environment, Elderly Women, Adolescents, Sexuality, Reproductive and Sexual Health and STDs including HIV/AIDS. FEIM’s activities are carried out jointly or in collaboration with municipalities, universities, community based organizations, women’s, students’ and other community NGOs. FEIM has NGO consultative status in ECOSOC since 2006, and has participated in United Nations Conferences such as ICPD and its follow-up processes through ICPD+15, Beijing to Beijing+15, UNGASS on HIV/AIDS and the follow-up review processes, as well as the yearly meetings of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the Children Summit, meetings of the CEPAL/ECLAC among others.
